FROM THE CADETS PERSPECTIVE

These are interviews with some of our cadets. They were asked questions about their experiences as a cadet and how they feel about their time in the program.

CPO2 Doyle.

CPO2 Doyle was asked:

 

What would you say to encourage a new cadet to sign up?

 

CPO2 Doyle explained that she finds cadets to be more of a family than an organization. It helped her grow as a person and has made her a better citizen. 

CPO2 Doyle has had the opportunity to be involved with the drill team, the range, the band and has travelled to London and France on a tall ship because of her involvement with cadets. She has been in national competitions and orienteering events.

 

What do you feel you have gotten from your time as a cadet?

 

CPO2 Doyle feels that she has gotten more confidence and has learned leadership skills that have aided her in becoming a better citizen. She feels more open and confident and also feels it has helped her grow as a person.

 

What do you feel you will take forward in your life?

 

CPO2 Doyle feels that it has prepared her for future job interviews. It has helped her speak with more confidence and feels more self assured. CPO2 Doyle feels that she has learned skills that will help her with leadership and time management. 

CPO2 Tootle

CPO2 Tootle was asked:

What would you say to encourage a new cadet to sign up?

PO1 Tootle explained that to be a cadet is to be part of something that is bigger than yourself. It gives you many opportunities. Gives you the ability to learn seamanship, the ability to go to summer camp and sailing. There is the possibility to be paid to go to camp as well.

What do you feel you have gotten from your time as a cadet?

PO1 Tootle feels that he has received so much from cadets. He has gotten qualifications for sailing and safety boat. He has his hand radio operators certificate as well as his first aid certificate.

Mostly he has developed friends he feels he will have for a lifetime.

What do you feel you will take forward in your life?

PO1 Tootle feels that he will take his enthusiasm for fitness and discipline forward into his life. He feels that he has made connections that will aid in his hope of attending the RMC. The seamanship and leadership he has gotten from cadets will help prepare him for a possible future in the Military. 

PO1 Tootle feels that cadets has given him a respect for other people and what he can learn from them. He feels that Cadets has shown him a way to better present himself. 

Coxswain CPO1 Ross

CPO1 Ross was asked:

 

What would you say to encourage a new cadet to sign up?

 

CPO1 Ross explained that he feels cadets is a structured program for everyone. Cadets is a quality organization where there are no limits as to how far you can go. Cadets is unparalleled for the experience and value.  It is 100% worth joining.

What have you gotten out of your time as a cadet?

CPO1 Ross feels that he has gotten a better idea of what it is to be a better citizen, and be part of a team. He feels he has improved as a person and it has guided him to his future. The Military structure and formality takes effort but it is worth doing.

What do you feel you will take forward in your life?

CPO1 Ross feels the friendships, fellowship and team dynamics will aid his his future endeavours. He has made valued relationships and connections. As Coxswain he has been more involved with strategic planning and administration in an oversight roll which, he feels, will help his future.
